Subject:Chippendale Chair
Issue Date: January 2, 2014
Denomination:0.04 USD
First issued in 2004 and again in 2007, this four-cent definitive stamp features a stylized treatment of a Chippendale chair made in Philadelphia between 1760 and 1765.

The Chippendale chair depicted on the stamp is a side chair, or chair without arms. The intricately patterned back features spiral ornaments called scrolls as well as carvings of a tassel and a shell. Another shell decorates the front of the seat. This exquisite chair has graceful cabriole, or curved, legs. The colors used for the wood and seat cover give the stamp design a contemporary feel.

Gingerbread Houses Stamps

The Gingerbread Houses stamps are being issued as Forever stamps.
Cheerful holiday stamps capture the delicious tradition and childlike nostalgia of making
gingerbread houses. Stumbling across a magical cottage made of cake and candy,
Hansel and Gretel knew just how special gingerbread houses could be—but no witches
will jump out of these confectionery domiciles. Instead, the Gingerbread Houses stamps
will add a touch of whimsy to your holiday mail.
These stamps feature four different gingerbread houses set against a bright blue background.
Sally Andersen-Bruce photographed the houses, created by baker Teresa Layman.
Art director Derry Noyes designed the stamps.

Spring Vintage Seed Packets Commemorative Forever Stamps.(April 05, 2013 )

The U.S. Postal Service celebrated the arrival of spring by dedicating new Vintage Seed Packets Commemorative Forever stamps. These beautiful First-Class stamps, based on photographs of seed packets from a century ago, were dedicated at the Philadelphia National Stamp Exhibition.
Created using chromolithography a process that replaced hand-tinted lithographs and allowed for inexpensive multi-color prints the illustrations originally graced the fronts of flower seed packets printed between 1910 and 1920.
Each of the 10 stamps depicts blossoms of one variety of flower a trio of cosmos in delicate white, pink, and red; stalks of yellow, pink and coral digitalis; bright yellow primrose flowers with orange centers; a vibrant orange Calendula; white, pink and blue aster blooms; two shades of pinks (Dianthus), one pale, one dark; Linum blossoms in a rich red; white drifts of Alyssum; clusters of Phlox in red, pink and purple; and pale pink, subtle yellow, and muted orange-red Zinnia flowers

Great Spangled Fritillary 70-cent Stamps (Issue Date: February 10, 2014)

The great spangled fritillary (Speyeria cybele) is named for the silvery spots found on the undersides of its wings. A large butterfly with a wingspan of 2.25 to 4 inches, it is found in all northern states and ranges as far south as northern Georgia in the east and central California in the west. Even though this striking butterfly is a common sight in much of the country, it can be puzzling to identify. Not only are females slightly darker than males, but individuals in eastern populations are more orange in color, while those in western populations are more brown.

All great spangled fritillaries have one thing in common: a very close relationship with violets. Females lay their eggs on or near clumps of violets in August or September. When the eggs hatch, the larvae crawl to nearby violet plants, but instead of having a snack, they hide among fallen leaves and begin to hibernate. When spring arrives, the caterpillars come out of hibernation and feed on fresh violet leaves before forming a chrysalis and transforming into adult butterflies.

Nationally known artist Tom Engeman worked with art director Derry Noyes on this design.

American Toleware 5-cent Stamps
This is the 5–cent American Toleware definitive stamp.

The 5–cent definitive American Toleware stamp features artist Lou Nolan's painted detail of a black toleware coffeepot decorated with red flowers; purple forget–me–nots; and yellow, green and orange leaves, from the Winterthur Museum in Delaware. Curators at Winterthur believe that it was manufactured in Philadelphia between 1850 and 1875. Derry Noyes of Washington, DC, was the designer and art director for this stamp.
With the American Toleware stamp from 2007, the famous clock stamp and the great Indianapolis stamp issued in 2010!

Constructed of brass and steel, the banjo clock depicted on the stamp has a painted iron dial and a mahogany case crowned by a brass eagle. Hummingbird 34-cent Stamps
Issue Date: February 7, 2014
The new Hummingbirds 34-cent Stamp postcard stamp celebrates the beauty and grace of the hummingbird.

The stamp art is a tinted, highly stylized, digital depiction of a hummingbird hovering near a plant.

Hummingbirds, known for their agility, brilliant colors, and long bills, are among the smallest birds in the world, ranging in size from about two to eight inches long. Some weigh less than a penny. Special wing anatomy enables hummingbirds to fly forward, backward, and upside down, as well as to hover in one spot. The “humming” sound they produce is made by their rapid wing movements — the wings of some species beat up to 80 times per second!

The Hummingbird stamp features the art of illustrator Nancy Stahl. Carl T. Herrman was the art director.

(Spicebush Swallowtail 66-cent Stamps)
Issue Date: January 23, 2013

The spicebush swallowtail (Papilio troilus) is known as one of the most beautiful and intriguing of the swallowtail butterflies. It is named for the plant on which its caterpillars commonly live, the spicebush.

Both as caterpillars and adults, spicebush swallowtails hide from their predators in plain sight. They do this by mimicking other animals and even inedible objects. When very young, the brown and white caterpillar resembles a bird dropping. The caterpillar later morphs into what looks like a small green snake, with yellow and black markings that resemble a snake's eyes and a false forked tongue. The butterfly's chrysalis mimics a dried brown leaf, complete with veins.

Nationally known artist Tom Engeman worked with art director Derry Noyes on this design.

La Florida Stamps

The U.S. Postal Service commemorates the 500th anniversary of the naming of Florida with the release of the La Florida (Forever®)
stamps that celebrate the state's floral abundance. During the Easter season of 1513,
Spanish explorers first visited the state we now know as Florida.
They named the land “La Florida” for Pascua Florida (“Feast of the Flowers”),
Spain's Easter celebration, and for the verdant display of vegetation that they could see from their ship.
Each stamp shows a particular variety of flower
Art director Ethel Kessler designed the stamp, with floral art by Steve Buchanan.
La Florida stamps are being issued as Forever stamps.
Forever stamps are always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate.
